We, at Training Toward Self Reliance, encourage as much family involvement for each of our consumers as possible. We realize though, that for whatever reason, immediate family members can not be here to see their loved ones on a regular basis or sometimes not on the holidays. In keeping with our goal of providing a family environment, we utilize our fund raising money to put on functions such as: *Spring Carnival. This event had a country square dance theme and was held in our horse arena. For this party, we provide games, food, prizes, cartoon drawings of each consumer, tattoo booths (temporary of course), etc. We also rented out a popcorn and cotton candy machine to give everyone attending the feeling of being at a real carnival. On top of this, we rented out a dunk tank, and every consumer has the opportunity to throw softballs at a target in the hopes of sending a Training Toward Self Reliance administrative member splashing into the water. Moreover, we also offered each consumer one pie to throw in the faces of the administrative staff. *Haunted Maze. This event was also held in our horse arena and was set up during the daytime so as not to alarm our consumers. Each consumer was offered a chance to walk through and gather as many treats as they could. Some of our consumers also volunteered to assist in working the maze during this event by dressing up as their favorite character or monster and entertaining each person who passed by. *Thanksgiving Feast. This event is held at a rented hall and all consumers are provided a turkey feast as well as dessert. *Christmas Party. The past 3 years, we again rented out a hall and provided our individuals with a top notch meal. On top of this, we hired out a disc jockey to play music to dance to as well as offered karaoke to those who chose to show off their talents. *Christmas Present For Every Consumer. Each year, the consumers fill out Christmas wish lists. Training Toward Self Reliance has been very successful in providing our consumers with the gifts that they wished for and will continue to do so. We are always trying to come up with ways to raise funds for these special events. In the past, we have had raffles, golf outings, Bingo nights, hoagie sales, cookie dough sales, etc. We will continue to do these fundraisers in the future, as they have been very successful.. We are very grateful to those persons and/or nearby businesses who have been so gracious as to help us in our efforts to raise money for the account.
